AI Use Case: Zero-Hallucination Architecture for Matter Preparation

In this Use Case we answer the most common question we get asked at Legal Ready is: “Is your AI safe to use?”.

The Scenario

A litigation team wants to leverage AI to speed up document review and chronology building. However, the partners are hesitant to permit this due to widespread examples of public AI tools “hallucinating”— fabricating case law, inventing facts, or providing misleading answers based on internet data. At the same time, both the litigation team and firm leadership are anxious to ensure they are not missing out on the potential benefits that AI can bring during the case preparation phase.

The Solution

Unlike general-purpose models (like ChatGPT) that are optimised for fluency and open-ended generation, Legal Ready is engineered specifically for closed-universe litigation. Our architecture creates a “walled garden” around your matter, making hallucination structurally impossible.

How It Works at Legal Ready

We eliminate the conditions that cause AI to fabricate information through three strict architectural controls:

1. A Closed, Matter-Only Environment

The AI has zero access to the internet, external datasets, or other users’ files. It can only “see” the documents users have uploaded to the specific matter folder and selected for AI enabled inquiry. If a fact, date, or name is not in your evidence, the system literally cannot produce it.

2. Extraction, Not Invention

General AI relies on “guessing” probability to fill gaps in knowledge. Legal Ready is restricted to extraction. It finds information within your documents, organises it, and surfaces it.

A further safety feature: every summary or chronology entry in Legal Ready is anchored with a clickable citation to the specific page/paragraph in the source document, allowing you to validate every sentence in the AI output.

3. No Data Training

Your data is never used to train the model. The AI does not learn from your matter, nor does it retain knowledge after a session. This eliminates the risk of “data leakage” or the AI applying outside knowledge to your case.

Maintaining Professional Standards is Fundamental: Risk & Mitigation

Using general-purpose AI for legal research can carry significant risk, as these models can confidently fabricate case law that does not exist. The only mitigation is strict verification against primary sources.

Legal Ready does not carry out legal research. As described above, Legal Ready’s architecture removes the technical risk of hallucination. However, the duty of competence remains with the lawyer:

  • Always Verify: Lawyers must verify AI outputs against the source text to ensure context is preserved.
  • Efficiency, Not Replacement: Use Legal Ready to expedite insights and eliminate manual drudgery, but never as a substitute for professional legal judgement. Think of our tools as a highly cost-effective power-assist, rather than a pilot.

The Outcome

The litigation team can rely on the output because it is:

  1. Verifiable: Every claim links back to a source document.
  2. Contained: No outside information contaminates the analysis.
  3. Auditable: The path from raw evidence to AI summary is transparent.

Key Takeaway

Legal Ready does not replace legal judgement; it augments it by removing the manual burden of search and sort. It provides a secure, document-bound environment where hallucinations cannot occur.
